I think one of the things exciting about Frank Martin/the Transporter is that he’s not Jason Bourne, he’s not James Bond, he’s not Ethan Hunt, he’s a well-dressed man, one helluva driver who does the job he’s hired to do, no more no less. I understand they’re trying to make Frank Martin appear more human by presenting that angle, to make him less of a caricature, but I think audiences will be divided by this sort of Sean Connery - Harrison Ford ‘The Last Crusade’-esque father-son banter approach.

I think the decision to add the element of Frank Martin’s dad, and to cast Ray Stevenson in that role is an interesting one. They play independent strong characters that can drop any man’s guard down. My favorite segment of the bonus features is the one focusing on le femmes, those four drop dead gorgeous ladies featured in this film. Quite a few French-speaking talking heads in this featurette that explains how dedicated Ed Skrein is and why he’s the right man for the job, to play the new Frank Martin. Not a lot of you audiences are probably familiar with his body of work yet, unless you’re hardcore fans “Game Of Thrones” in which he briefly played a character which then got recast when he left the show to move on to gigs like “The Transporter Refueled.” In this segment, Ed revealed that he’s a pacifist, so it takes much of him to train and be a fighter actor for this role. The blu-ray comes with special features that includes segment about Ed Skrein. If you’re coming with minimal expectations, then you’ll have a blast because, as I mentioned in my previous review, this is one of those movies where you watch it because you want to see what type of over-the-top and elaborate fights or gunfights or car chase sequences or action set pieces they could come up with, EuropaCorp-style So if you know what you’re getting yourself into, then you’re all set. It’s your basic 101 action film that’s all about sleekness, style, and sex appeal. This film, or should I say this franchise is for all intents and purposes, designed for the easily amused. There’s not much sense in “The Transporter Refueled” either, you can spot or notice many things about the plot or the characters that would make you go face-palming in disbelief.

I thought the first “Transporter” movie starring Jason Statham, was intriguing but it went downhill from there, it got more and more ridiculous and cartoonish with each sequel. It doesn’t really offer much if you’re a fan of the franchise, but it does offer just enough to get you to see how they did some of the action sequences, and it allows you to get to know some of the new faces as well. Special thanks to 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment for sending me this blu-ray. Their new star, Ed Skrein has the potential and I hope he gets to prove himself more. Too bad it was not well-received by many and the film itself flopped at the box office, but I stand by my opinion that this is a pretty cool way to start a fresh with this franchise, it’s sexy, it’s thrilling, it’s action-packed, sure it’s not well-written but that’s expected. I was one of the few who actually genuinely enjoyed “The Transporter Refueled” when it hit theaters a few months ago.
